What Are Lovespoons?
Dating back to the 17th century, lovespoons are wooden sppons with decorative carving which were traditionally presented as gifts indicating romantic intent. Usually adorned with symbols of love, the spoons demonstrated the skills of the carver. No longer used as functioning spoons they remain interesting decorative pieces which bring character to your home.
The earliest known lovespoon is a Welsh spoon which is displayed in the St Fagans National History Museum near Cardiff and dates from 1667. However, the tradition of carving the spoons is believed to have begun many years before this.
