About Tilley Hats
Canadian sailor Alex Tilley had struggled to find the perfect hat for sailing. In 1980, he decided to have some hats made for himself and his fellow sailors. Creating the design and overseeing the production of the new hats provided him with a winter hobby. He took advice from a milliner as to the style and fit and consulted a sail-maker for technical information regarding fabrics.
Alex’s hats gradually became a small business and then grew into a highly regarded brand. The fine Tilley mens country hats are now quite simply must have’s. Handcrafted from 15 different pieces, each hat is created by talented artisans. No less than 23 artisans lend their skill to each piece and a 41-step process is used to complete every hat. This ensures that each and every piece is the best that it can be.
